Dense Foliage, Decent Placement

I don’t typically design for babies.

This is not a criticism of babies. They are fine… cute even… mostly. But my usual territory runs more toward the tastes of people who have strong opinions about their spaces and garment choices, and have been drinking wine long enough to know what they like. Grandmillennial vignettes. Block print botanicals. Patterns with a point of view and a mild superiority complex.

When I entered the Spoonflower Jungle Nursery Design Challenge with Goodnight Jungle, I was operating a little outside my comfort zone. The brief called for nursery-appropriate jungle design, which, if you know my catalog, .s a bit like being handed a kazoo when you mostly play ukulele. You can make it work, but nobody’s pretending it’s a concert.

Goodnight Jungle placed 68th out of 1239 entries. I am choosing to interpret this as the jungle doing most of the work, but I’ll take the placement either way.

The design leans into the lush, layered tropical aesthetic I’m more naturally drawn to – oversized banana leaves, birds of paradise, verdant chaos – less “nursery mural” and more “boutique hotel lobby that happens to have a crib in it.” Now that’s my kind of nursery.
