Design DNA

Describing my own design style is tough, but as a designer looking for work, it would be helpful if I could come up with a sentence or two that accurately describes what I do. Hopefully in a way that helps me sell my work to potential buyers.

I feel like I flit from one idea to another, one style to another, following what interests me and seeing where I land. How do you describe that? On the other hand, I’ve often been told that my work is recognizable, which makes me think there must be a through-line for those who look carefully.

In pursuit of some help I took an online quiz from Pattern Observer that promised to help me narrow this down. After answering 10-15 questions, here’s what I got:

The Abstract Expressionist

“The emotion alchemist”

  • Your Design DNA:
Painterly textures • Emotional landscapes • Artistic rebellion
  • Your Superpower:
You transform surfaces into canvases that evoke feelings beyond words
  • Famous DNA Matches:
Marimekko’s bold artists, Kelly Wearstler’s expressive work, and contemporary art textile collaborations
  • Markets to explore:
High-end fashion, artistic home decor, gallery collections, design-conscious brands
  • Share-Worthy Quote:
“My patterns are conversations between color, texture, and intuition – each one a little rebellion against the ordinary”

What do you think, does that sound like me?
