Plaid has been following the rules for a few hundred years. This one decided it was done with that. Sweeping waves cut straight through the grid on a soft, sturdy table runner that works just as well for a weeknight dinner as it does for the holidays. Pair it with the matching [napkin set] and call it a tablescape. A classic, just not a well-behaved one.
