Rochelle Weiner Carr
This portfolio showcases my work in surface pattern design, where I blend a background in graphic design and fine art to create fresh, expressive collections.
I create to spread the happy. Blending fine art sensibilities with digital design, my work is vibrant, layered, and intentionally imperfect. Inspired by global cultures, history, and the beauty of everyday nature, I design patterns where color, texture, and the artist’s hand take center stage. Pattern design is a recent obsession, one that’s grown into a dedicated business over the past three years, built on a lifelong fine art practice and a career in graphic design and web development. I’m based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Building a Surface Pattern Practice
In 2023, I officially launched my surface pattern design business by publishing this website (designed and built by me) and opening a shop on Spoonflower. New to the industry, I challenged myself to participate in Spoonflower’s monthly design challenges as a way to learn the business, understand trends, connect with fellow designers, and fully immerse myself in the process.
That challenge quickly became something much more meaningful. Along the way, I’ve connected with an incredibly welcoming and generous community of like-minded artists, and built a robust portfolio of original concepts and collections. My designs consistently place well, averaging in the top 11% of entries (yes, I really did the math!), with top finishes including 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, and more. Highlights from these award-winning designs are featured below.
In spring 2025, I was honored to be selected as one of the Top 100 artists featured in Uppercase Magazine’s bi-annual Surface Pattern Design issue — an incredibly meaningful milestone and a true thrill to be included alongside so many artists I admire.
Launching this portfolio of surface pattern designs is a natural culmination, combining my lifelong passions for digital design and fine art.

I have challenged myself to enter the monthly design challenge at Spoonflower, and haven’t missed a challenge yet! Each challenge draws between 1200 – 2000 entries from other artists. Below is a list of my entries that reached notable placement.
More background about Rochelle
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Painting and Drawing and Art History from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Since 1998, I’ve run a successful full-service branding design and web development studio, Andiamo Creative.
In 2010, I expanded into a concurrent fine art practice, working in digital drawing, watercolor, monoprinting, charcoal, and oil/cold wax. My award-winning artwork has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in galleries and museums, published in art magazines, and featured in an art school textbook. My public works are held in permanent collections at Fiserv Forum (home of the Milwaukee Bucks), Milwaukee Area Technical College, and the Village of Shorewood, Wisconsin, including an open-air community art installation.
In 2020, during the COVID lockdown, I began sharing MKE Beautiful, photographs taken on my daily walks through Milwaukee, a project rooted in observation, connection, and finding beauty in the everyday.
